Two presidential debates coming up
On June July 23 from 5:00pm - 8:00pm at Ngarachamayong Cultural Center, the Youth In Action in partnership with Koror State Youth Council will sponsor a presidential debate with topic expected to focus on youth issues. All the presidential candidates have all confirmed their participation. Than tentatively on August 26 from 6:00pm - 9:00pm, the Palau Chamber of Commerce working with Palau Bar Association is also planning for another debate to help the public choose who among the four presidential candidates offers a better platform of governance for the republic. Three of the four presidential candidates - Joshua Koshiba, Johnson Toribiong, Surangel Whipps have already given their confirmation to attend the debate. Questions have yet to be decided and the moderator has not been chosen.
Omdui even with your eye for detail, I do believe you meant July 23 and not June 23 regarding the upcoming presidential debates.
Concerning the debates, I believe it safe to say that JT will outshine everyone else although Chin might have a leg up because of all his work with the youth. Anyway we shall see especially how JK and SW also fare in the debates.

The investigation of the PSB Bank collapse is most important to Palau's international reputation particularly since independent investigator, Mr. Lewis Harley has charged the Palau Minister of Finance and Palau's civil service pension fund.
Let us not play down and forget that President Tommy Remengesau Jr. himself questionably approved the pension fund to be deposited into PSB Bank when the President was fully aware that PSB Bank was unsound! Extraordinary! especially when you consider that yhe money was quicky withdrawn again within a few days of the funds being deposited into PSB bank by depositors like Ms Greenberg and others close to the government.
Is it a wonder that TR is dragging his heels when it comes to extending Mr. Harley's tenure in Palau?
My guess is that it will not be long before the Minister of Finance sings like a yellow canary when he faces a 20 year jail term and guess where the arrow will point? Ha! Ha! Ha!
Since Surangel is reputed the richest man in Palau and worth hundreds of millions and wants to be Palau's future President. let us see how far removed he is from TR's influences.
Surangel I challenge you to pay for Mr. Lewis Harley salary if Mr. President comes up with the lame excuse that Palau cannot afford to maintain an independent prosecutor.
What about you MOJ Chin would you like to contribute financially to keep the independent investigators doing his job in Palau.
I tell you what! I will personally contribute $5,000.00 toward Mr. Harley's salary if Surangel and/or Chin comes forward to guarantee the balance of Mr. Harley salary for year 2009.
Let's see if these esteemed gentlemen who aspire to become President of Palau are really interested in justice and getting to the bottom of who is the master-mind behind the PSB Bank cheating.
Sulang!

What is going on? No comment from Youth Debate? Uchelmelis, and you all want to hear your comments. As for me,SW- a man that has nothing to loose, put himself so low in respect to his rivals and the audience(ngalk ra belau) admitting that he is not good in talking yet have a heart for his own people that he will have all ears and be their servant. That is a real president, I didn't find a pebble of pride in him, but he instill a valuable lesson for me to shine out as Chad ra Belau.

Body language: Johnson - Poise, intelligent, handsome, hits the bulls eye with all his answers. Joshua- Confident, at ease, chews his beetle nut making sure that Palau is still Palau regardless of the rivals answers which never threaten him. Chin- Military style with his answers. Brags about all of his ... "done that for the youth". "I campaign for all that I have done for you youth of Belau" What a statement Surangel- just himself, flagged on every questions past 2 minutes, admitts that he is no speaker. Yet, tackle every question naturally with his heart and facts. Warning: never judge a book by its cover.
