Dr. Kuartei to replace Dr. Yano
President-elect Johnson Toribiong in his address during the first day of the 4th Public Health Convention at NCC announced to a loud applause the appointment of Dr. Stevenson Kuartei to be his Minister of Health. Toribiong said that he felt that the forum was the perfect time to unveil his choice for the Ministry of Health. So far Dr. Kuartei and VP-elect Kerai Mariur who is widely known take over the Ministry of Finance are the only two appointments revealed publicly. Toribiong has been keeping a tight lid on information of his selection process and has said in earlier statement that he will announce his list of cabinet members after the inauguration on January 15.
Congratulations to new Minister of Health, Dr. Stevenson Kuartei and kudos to President Elect Johnson Toribiong for choosing the right person.

Can't go wrong with Dr. Kuartei! A good sign of actually appointing and selecting of an individual that actually has the required skills and experiences to lead the ministry that has a whole lot of issues with financial needs.

Just a question. what happens to Dr. Kuartei'r present salary of $100plus a year? Will that stop and he'll resume the new salary for Ministers? or will the miniter's salary be added to the current salary?

Turk,
Money is not everything for the good Doctor but if you really want to know about 60 0r 70 percent of his salary is paid for by U.S.federal grants. Whether he will get a paycut remains to be seen.

Knowing Dr. Kuartei, I believe that his salary is not an issue. His the person whom I call "Ngirbelau".
The question I would like to pose here is, do we Palauans need a Minister of Health or more Doctors and I mean Medical Doctors? Please advise.
