A local noni farmer who has been involved in the business for the past four years is reporting that the Palau Organic Farm (POF) since February announced that they will be reducing the volume will buy from each individual farmers. He also said that Palau Organic Farm informed the farmers that because of the vast inventory in the warehouse that needs to be moved to market they cannot buy at the current volume until they reduce their inventory.
According to the farmer, since the Palau Organic Farm is the only buyer on island he has no choice but to concede to the demands of the company. He says that he used to gross around $800 a month from his noni farms, but since the announcement he only realizes a fourth of that amount. “I used to harvest twice a week, not it’s down to twice a month and my income is down to $200 a month from roughly $800 a month,” says the farmer from the east coast of Babeldaob.
